The W220 S-Class was Mercedes-Benz’s flagship sedan from 1998 to 2005, representing the pinnacle of luxury, technology and comfort of its era. Mercedes introduced Distronic on the W220 — one of the first production systems that could automatically maintain a set distance from the car ahead using radar. Unlike normal cruise control, Distronic constantly measures the gap ahead, adjusting speed accordingly. This was very advanced for its time (late 1990s – early 2000s) and uncommon outside top-spec S-Classes.
