Tillandsia stricta ‘Hard Leaf Form’ is a plant well adapted to a wide variety of areas and growing conditions. It is native to Venezuela, Trinidad, Suriname, Guyana, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and northern Argentina. It can be found growing on sand dunes or in treetops at the Atlantic Range foothills. These short stemmed Tillandsias have many thin leaves arranged to form a sort of rosette with the “Hard Leaf Form” having fewer but wider, and thicker leaves (hence the name). In summer they produce bright reddish pink colored bloom spikes that emerge with bright blue flowers. Unfortunately these beautiful flowers only last about 1 day before it will start to wilt. It’s said to be some of the most vibrantly colored blooms of all Tillandsia.
