Ferrari dramatically overhauled the aerodynamics and vehicle dynamics, utilizing Formula 1-derived technologies and extensive carbon fiber.

-Aerodynamics-
Features a patented closed rear screen with vortex generators (replacing standard rear glass), a striking front carbon-fiber blade across the hood to mask engine air vents, and a massive rear diffuser to maximize downforce.

-Steering & Handling-
Features PCV 3.0 (Virtual Short Wheelbase) with the debut of independent four-wheel steering, allowing the rear wheels to steer independently of each other. It also utilizes Ferrari's SSC 7.0 (Side Slip Control) system.

(Note: Alongside the coupe, Ferrari also produced the 812 Competizione A (Aperta), a Targa-top variant featuring a removable carbon-fiber roof panel. While mechanically identical, the 'A' features slightly tweaked aero to compensate for the lack of the coupe's vortex-generator rear screen, and carries a minor weight penalty due to chassis reinforcement. Production was strictly limited: 999 Coupes and 599 Apertas were built, all sold out before the car was even revealed to the public.)
