Please do not be mistaken this for a regular early batch 500SL. This is a newer and revised version of the 500SL rebadged as SL500 after solving all the previous glitches by Mercedes Benz. They are two different worlds altogether! So please do not compare this car to the earlier R129 500SL models from 1990 or 1991. This post 1995 model has a newer direct fuel injection system with better fuel efficiancy. This means, the previous fuel divider issue from the earlier 500SL has been completely eliminated. That is a huge relieve and enthusiasts know that! This facelifted variant also comes with a newer improvised transmission which again contributes to a lower engine running RPM and fantastic fuel consumption. The SL500 became better in every manner as compared to the previous 500SL variant.

The 500SL V8 is considered to be the HOLY GRAIL of the R 129 variant to collect as a daily driver putting aside the SL73 AMG series. The 300SL was considered to be underpowered. The 600SL V12 versions on the other hand were problematic with wiring harness issues and nearly undrivable for they always caught fire. This same V12 engine was also used in the SL70 and SL73 which made it equally problematic. It has came to realization that the 500SL V8 had the best power to weight ratio, perfect torque and extremely reliable. Many articles were published later on to justify that the 500SL V8 was still better than the 600SL V12 in many ways. Hence, since the dawn of time, collectors have begun sourcing for these masterpiece. All these plus points has contributed to collectors to hunt for these gold mine eagerly.
