Gibson Chet Atkins Studio CE – Rare Nylon-String Model (1997):
This is a rare version of Gibson’s renowned Chet Atkins nylon-string guitar — the Studio CE, a model produced for a relatively short period of time. Made in Kalamazoo, MI USA.
Developed by Mike Voltz for Chet Atkins, the Studio CE evolved from a series of prototypes by Kirk Sand. It features a 2.00-inch nut width and a 26-inch scale length.
Unlike a conventional classical guitar, the Studio CE has a classically braced top mounted on a fully hollow body carved from a solid piece of mahogany. The result is an exceptionally resonant instrument with its own distinctive acoustic character.
Designed primarily for amplified performance, the body has no soundhole, helping to tremendously reduce feedback on stage performances.
Based on its serial number, this guitar was built during the first week of June 1997. It remains in excellent condition and comes with its original brown Gibson hardshell case.
A distinctive and increasingly uncommon piece of Gibson’s Chet Atkins guitar history, it sounds wonderful and plays beautifully.
