Formed in 1981, Asia is a British rock supergroup that brought together iconic members of the progressive rock scene, including vocalist/bassist John Wetton (King Crimson), guitarist Steve Howe (Yes), keyboardist Geoff Downes (The Buggles), and drummer Carl Palmer (Emerson, Lake & Palmer). Their self-titled debut album, released in March 1982, masterfully shifted away from their technical progressive roots toward radio-friendly arena rock, a formula that quickly turned it into a global phenomenon. Featuring legendary hits like "Heat of the Moment" and "Only Time Will Tell," the record spent nine weeks at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, ultimately becoming the best-selling album of 1982 in the United States and earning permanent cultural status for its iconic sea-dragon cover art designed by fantasy artist Roger Dean.
