    Description

German Made T+A P 3000 HV High End Stereo Pre Amplifier (Used Like New)

Still in great working condition and super solid build pre amp, around 30kg where this pre amp can bring your system to the next level without any doubts.

The T+A P 3000 HV is a reference-grade, high-voltage preamplifier designed for audiophiles who want the clearest and most natural sound possible. It is built by the German audio company T+A (Theorie und Anwendung) as part of their flagship HV (High Voltage) series.

The T+A P 3100 HV audiophile preamp is part of a family of components made by a manufacturer that’s something of a powerhouse in Europe, but only recently committed to increasing their footprint in the highly competitive U.S. market. And unlike most European audiophile electronics companies, T+A is actually making some serious strides in the United States in terms of distribution. You might still need to travel to a show or a bigger city to audition them—especially the top-of-the-line products. But that’s part of the experience and not at all out of line with audiophile gear in this class.

    Key Features and Design

    - High Voltage Technology: T+A engineers their transistors to run at much higher voltages than normal. This creates better linearity (smoother performance) and lowers distortion.
    - Double-Mono Construction: The left and right audio channels are completely separated both electrically and physically. This stops the channels from interfering with each other.
    - Sturdy Build: The thick-walled aluminum case blocks outside electronic noise and vibrations.
Tone and Room Controls: It features an analog tone processor, adjustable "loudness," and parametric equalizers. This allows you to tune the bass and treble to fit your specific room and speakers.
    - Dedicated Power Supplies: It includes separate power supplies for the analog and digital sections to eliminate background noise.

    Main Specifications

    - Frequency Response: 0.5 Hz - 300 kHz
    - Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR): 108 dB / 112 dB
    - Total Harmonic Distortion (THD): < 0.001%
    - Inputs: 4 x balanced (XLR), 7 x unbalanced (RCA)
    - Outputs: 1 x PRE out XLR, 1 x PRE out RCA, 1 x Recorder out, and a high-current headphone output
    - Weight: 28 kg (approx. 62 lbs)
    - Dimensions: 17 cm × 46 cm × 46 cm

    Design

This may be an integrated amp but inside you’ll find the preamplifier and power amplifier sections are physically separated. The preamplifier section sits in the top half of the casework.

It’s a proper dual-mono design where the left and right channels are separated. A great deal of care has been paid to component quality, right down to using decay-resistant air-sealed gold contact relays.

Equally, the company hasn’t tried to cut corners with its engineering solutions. Rather than using a traditional volume control it uses a series of precision resistors for each channel.

You’ll hear a faint click as the volume is changed, caused by the relays that switch between differing values of resistors and so change the signal level.

All the control circuitry is housed in the front panel. Not only does this look neat, but the 4cm-thick panel – yes, that’s right, 4cm – shields the sensitive audio circuitry from any electrical noise generated by the display and controls.

The PA 3000 HV is a powerful unit. Its output is rated at 300W per channel into eight ohms. More revealing is the peak power at four ohms, which is 700W per channel. Should be enough for most situations…

The HV in this product’s name refers to the fact that T+A has designed this amplifier to drive its transistors at a higher voltage to take advantage of the greater linearity available when they’re driven harder.

The downside to this approach is the need for top-quality parts and careful development for everything to work properly.

Also, it’s a challenge to come up with a circuit that operates in this way yet still offers more than a nod to eco considerations.

This level of engineering appeals strongly to the inner nerd in us, but in the end it has to translate into a sound that lives up to that massive price tag. In the case of PA 3000 HV it does.

    High Voltage
In the ingenious overall circuit design of the HV (= High Voltage) series - developed in-house by T+A - all the amplifier stages operate at much higher operating voltages than usual: in the preamplifier the figure is up to 100 Volt, in the power amplifier up to 360 Volt. In a similar manner to valve amplifiers, the actual modulation of all the stages can be kept very low. Only a very small percentage (less than 20%) of the possible excursion of the amplifier transistors is used, thereby virtually eliminating the curvature (non-linearity) of that characteristic.

Additional measures for improving the linear nature of the voltage amplifier stages are also employed. In addition to outstanding linearity, the high operating voltages employed offer the advantage of extremely wide dynamic range. We have developed this unique technology for use in all the HV-series machines, since the tremendous sonic improvements which it makes possible can be exploited in the output stages of source devices such as the MP 3100 HV multi-source player as well as in preamplifiers and power amplifiers.

    Construction
The connector section on the back panel provides impressive evidence of the P 3100 HV’s uncompromising design and symmetrical double-mono construction. The channels are kept consistently separate. The preamplifier circuit boards are of exact identical construction, and are located under the case top cover; this layout eliminates electromagnetic influences. The circuit boards are housed in their own compartment made of thick-walled (10 to 15 mm) aluminium plates, and are completely separated and shielded from the mains unit and power supply in the bottom section of the case. The circuit topology is based on a differential cascode amplifier with hand-selected audio J-FET transistors.

All stages are of completely discrete construction with-out op-amps (operational amplifiers). Their linear nature is not derived from “hard” negative feedback, as in the case of standard op-amps, but from the quality of the circuit topology and the components employed, which are carefully selected and adjusted. For this reason virtually no overall negative feedback is required. T+A HV technology enables signals up to 80 Vss to be processed without distortion - a value which is unique for a transistor preamplifier.

What Makes The T+A P 3100 HV Special?

T+A is very serious about their components being designed to be dual mono from input to output. In fact, the cabinet is constructed so that the left and right channel circuitry are completely isolated. There are even two power supplies—one for the display and one for the analog audio circuitry—requiring not one, but two 15-amp (pretty beefy) power cords.

All cabinet internals are designed to completely isolate their function from other operations.
