I have tried testing it with a universal 6V power adapter via the cradle, but the unit is currently powering
Given the age of the device, it almost certainly needs a replacement internal lithium battery (LIP-3WMB cell) to complete the circuit, or a specialized external side-car battery pack to run.
Cosmetically in great shape for its age with minimal wear—buttons, jacks, and physical switches are all intact.
