In 1985, the "Boat Series" one-dollar banknote replaced the previous version, featuring a green design with a pinas (Malaysian galleon) on the obverse and a view of Singapore's public housing and HDB flats on the reverse. This version remained in circulation until 1999.
Due to the greater durability and lower cost of coins, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) announced in 2006 that it would phase out the issuance of one-dollar banknotes and promote one-dollar coins instead. However, the one-dollar banknote retains its legal tender status, and a small amount may still be circulating in the market.
