Formed in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1973 by musicians departing the group Inner Circle, Third World established themselves as pioneers of reggae fusion. Renowned for their exceptional instrumental versatility, formal musical training, and dynamic live sets, they quickly achieved international reach, famously touring Europe as the opening act for Bob Marley & The Wailers. Their 1989 album, Serious Business, represents the pinnacle of their late-80s commercial era, bridging traditional roots reggae and dancehall with mainstream American R&B, synth-pop, and new jack swing.
