FOR SALE: 1996 Volvo 850R Sedan – A True Scandinavian Flying Brick Legend
An unobtanium 90s icon with British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) racing pedigree.

If you know, you know. The 1996 Volvo 850R isn’t just a classic sedan—it is the ultimate sleeper supercar chaser of the 1990s. Born out of Volvo’s bold desire to tear up the motorsport rulebook, the 850R took the world by storm, proving that a boxy Swedish family car could run down Porsche and BMW performance sedans on both the track and the Autobahn.

Offered here is an authentic, original factory 850R—not a converted T-5 or clone.

🇲🇾 Ultra-Rare Spec & Provenance in Malaysia

Finding a genuine 850R anywhere in the world is getting nearly impossible; finding one registered in Malaysia is hen's teeth territory.

Hyper-Exclusive Quota: Back in 1996, official importer Federal Auto was allocated only 20 units of the official Volvo 850R for the entire Malaysian market.
The RM285k Price Tag: Priced at an astronomical RM285,000 new in 1996 (equivalent to a prime luxury property back then), these cars were exclusively purchased by high-profile collectors, CEOs, and avid racing enthusiasts.
Extremely High Survival Scarcity: Decades later, it is estimated that fewer than 10 original units remain alive and roadworthy in Malaysia, making this a blue-chip collectible that turns heads at every car meet, Sunday drive, and Cars & Coffee event.

⚙️ Technical Specifications & Performance
At the heart of the 850R is Volvo's iconic 2.3-liter 5-cylinder high-pressure turbo engine. The distinct, intoxicating 5-cylinder thrum under full boost is unforgettable.
Engine: 2.3L B5234T Inline-5 DOHC 20-Valve High-Pressure Turbocharged
Turbocharger: Heavy-duty Mitsubishi TD04HL Turbo with Intercooler
Factory Output: Up to 240+ HP @ 5,600 RPM / 330+ Nm Torque @ 2,400 RPM (Manual spec factory tuned up to 250 PS / 350 Nm)
Transmission: 4-Speed Adaptive Automatic (or rare M59 5-Speed Manual with Viscous LSD, if applicable)
Top Speed: 245 – 250 km/h (Electronically limited)
Acceleration (0–100 km/h): ~6.7 to 6.9 seconds
Drivetrain: Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) with Sport-Tuned Lowered Suspension & Anti-Roll Bars
Brakes: 4-Wheel Vented Discs with ABS & TRACS Traction Control

🏎️ Signature R Features & Factory Trim
Unlike standard 850 models, the 'R' came standard with bespoke luxury and aerodynamic enhancements:

Exterior: Factory R aerodynamic front bumper lip, rear boot spoiler, and iconic 17-inch "Volans" anthracite alloy wheels.

Interior: Signature two-tone interior featuring deep-bolstered R sports seats trimmed in premium Swedish leather with genuine Alcantara suede inserts.
Cabin Accents: Factory dark walnut / birch wood trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel with matching Alcantara grip sections, and original R-embossed door sill guards.
