Upakut, the Water God of Wealth, comes from Wat Non Chak Si, a famous royal temple in Thailand. It is renowned for housing the third largest reclining Buddha in Thailand (Phra Non Chak Si). Made in 2566 BE by Chao Khun Yongyork.

Why is this temple so famous for its Upakut, the "Water God of Wealth"?

While the temple primarily features reclining Buddhas, the creation of Upakut (Phra Upakut, also known as the Water God of Wealth) stems from the following reasons: In traditional Thai belief, Upakut is considered a "water-dwelling ascetic," capable of suppressing evil spirits and attracting wealth. In Thai temple culture, large reclining Buddha temples often enshrine Arhats as Water Gods of Wealth to protect the temple and bless devotees.

According to legend, the temple's founding is related to the story of "Singhapahu," the Lion Prince, who killed his father to atone for his sins. Enshrining Upakut symbolizes the removal of obstacles and karmic burdens, aligning with the temple's theme of atonement.

In Sing Buri province, Upakku, the Water God of Wealth, is traditionally regarded as a guardian deity who brings good fortune and protection. Many believers think that praying to Upakku at his temple will bring greater success in business.
