"Alias Chin Peng: My Side of History" is the autobiography of Chin Peng, the former leader of the Malayan Communist Party (MCP). In this candid and detailed memoir, Chin Peng provides his personal account of the communist struggle in Malaya (now Malaysia) during the mid-20th century, particularly focusing on the guerrilla warfare against British colonial rule during the Malayan Emergency (1948–1960).
The book offers a rare insider’s perspective on one of Southeast Asia’s most turbulent periods, covering key events, political ideologies, and the motivations behind the MCP’s resistance. Chin Peng addresses controversies surrounding his role, refutes accusations, and reflects on the broader implications of the communist movement in Malaya’s path to independence.
Written with the help of historians and researchers, Alias Chin Peng balances personal narrative with historical context, shedding light on a figure both vilified and admired. It challenges mainstream historical narratives and invites readers to reconsider the complexities of colonial resistance, nationalism, and Cold War politics in the region.
