Armageddon is a 1998 American science fiction disaster film directed by Michael Bay and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The story follows a team of deep-core oil drillers led by Bruce Willis who are recruited by NASA to travel into space and destroy a massive asteroid that is on a collision course with Earth. As the team races against time, they must drill into the asteroid and plant a nuclear device that can split it apart before it causes global extinction. Blending large-scale visual effects, intense action sequences and emotional character moments, the film explores themes of sacrifice, courage and humanity’s determination to survive in the face of catastrophic danger. Featuring performances by Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler and Billy Bob Thornton, Armageddon became one of the biggest box office hits of 1998 and is remembered for its dramatic space mission storyline and its iconic soundtrack including the song “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith.
