Basic Instinct follows tough San Francisco detective Nick Curran (played by Michael Douglas) as he investigates the brutal murd3r of a former rock star, leading him to the seductive and enigmatic crime novelist Catherine Tramell (played by Sharon Stone), whose provocative behavior, mysterious past, and uncanny connection to the killing make her both an irresistible temptation and the prime suspect. As Nick, already struggling with his own troubled history and a strained relationship with police psychologist Dr. Beth Garner (played by Jeanne Tripplehorn), becomes dangerously entangled with Catherine, the line between desire and manipulation blurs, pulling him into a psychological game of seduction, deceit, and escalating violence where no one can be fully trusted.
