The "Reverse Cover" variant of Guns N' Roses' 1987 debut album, Appetite for Destruction, was created as an emergency replacement after standard retail stores refused to stock the album due to its controversial, sexually suggestive original cover art painted by Robert Williams. To salvage retail distribution, Geffen Records quickly pulled the original graphic from the exterior, tucked it away safely inside the booklet, and flipped the band's photo-grid collage artwork to become the new main front cover. This quick-fix collage layout served as the definitive, permanent face for early global compact disc pressings before the band's iconic Celtic cross and skulls emblem was adopted as the universal standard artwork.
