Synopsis:
The Adventures of Superman #500 (June 1993), subtitled “Back From the Dead?”, bridges The Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen storylines. After suffering a heart attack, Jonathan Kent experiences a near-death vision in which he journeys through a surreal afterlife to rescue his son Clark’s soul, encountering spiritual beings like Kismet and Blaze along the way. Determined not to let Clark go, Jonathan fights to pull him back from the brink of death, ultimately awakening in the hospital and telling Martha he “brought Clark back.” Meanwhile, Lois Lane discovers Superman’s coffin empty, fueling rumors of his return. The issue also introduces four mysterious figures claiming to be Superman—John Henry Irons (the Man of Steel), the Eradicator (the Last Son of Krypton), Superboy (the Metropolis Kid), and Cyborg Superman (the Man of Tomorrow)—each debuting in short “First Sighting” backup stories. The comic marks a turning point in the saga, shifting from mourning to rebirth, as both Jonathan and Metropolis begin to hope that Superman may truly live again.
