Cast-Iron Bill follows the adventures of Bill Steele, a stalwart goalkeeper for the fictional fourth-division football club Barrowmere. Widely considered the toughest man in British football, Bill earned his nickname because his surname sounds like "steel." He balances his sensational, unbeatable goalkeeping skills with his true passion: hound-trailing across the rugged Cumbrian hills with his two prize dogs, Lora and Rikki. When he isn't dominating on the football pitch under extreme, borderline-impossible conditions, Bill acts as a local hero using his tracking hounds to rescue stranded hikers, thwart regional criminals, and protect his community.
Originally serialized in weekly UK story papers starting in 1973, this 1980 Red Dagger #6 issue collects the complete story arc into a single 64-page anthology. Highly nostalgic for fans of classic British sports comics, it is appreciated for its unique fusion of working-class football drama, rural adventure tales, and a back cover feature starring legendary Manchester United goalkeeper Gary Bailey.
